Fall Décor Home Tour

Have you picked out the perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkin yet? Indulged in any pumpkin spiced treats?

I haven’t gotten around to either yet, but have been reveling in the autumn season so far! We have had a beautiful burst of fall like weather in Texas. For once, it has been slightly less hot and humid out and we have made a concerted effort to get outside and soak it all in!

I’m so excited to show you some of the new Fall décor around our home this season. So let’s start with the front door. I still love to use my Chevron Burlap Wreath in autumn, but this year I have added purple mums, begonias and a few straw pumpkins. I love the added warmth of these inviting floral touches.

Moving on to our Entry. In past years I hadn’t done much decorating in our Entryway. Maybe change out a few branches in the tall vase next to my mirror, but that’s about it. This year I decided to spread the orange/pumpkin love and incorporate aqua/turquoise with a hint of red.

I draped our entry table with linen and added a bit of the Ming Dragon in Aquatint from Robert Allen’s Dwell Studio line. This fun print pulls everything together perfectly!

Last year’s decorations in the living room can be seen here. And as you can see, I went a little pumpkin crazy. Pumpkins from edge to edge. This year I am using my apothecary jars, a few of my milk glass pieces, and some other fall colors like plum and green.

Thus far, I’ve styled the apothecary jars for both Christmas and spring. They have been a great addition and I’ve enjoyed coming up with new ways to adapt their décor for the coming season.

Meanwhile, incorporating multiple natural elements such as artichokes, pomegranates, and acorns along with the usual pumpkins reminds me of harvest.

That’s all for now, but be sure to check back soon for some of my favorite fall décor across the web.

How have you styled your home for the autumnal season?

Fall & Thanksgiving Fun

Over the past few weeks, I have loved seeing our Fall decor on display. Autumn has been surprisingly chilly here in Houston, but I have been loving every frigid minute of it! For once, it feels like there might be four actual seasons in Texas.

Once again, my Chevron Burlap Wreath has donned our front door.

Christopher has been enjoying all of the “punkins” currently displayed on top of our entertainment center (the closest thing I have to a mantle).

While our Jack-O-Lantern is long out of commission…

The dining table centerpiece is still intact. Though, it’s a miracle that the contents have not yet been commandeered for 3 year old juggling practice.

Pressed leaves are on exhibit, but only for a limited time!

Soon, I’ll be packing up Autumn and unveiling Christmas.

Until then, have a spectacular Thanksgiving! Cherish the memories made as well as the ones you make them with!

Chevron Burlap Wreath Tutorial

Today is the first day of Fall!

And I got my wish, cooler temps here in Houston. It has truly been blazingly hot and uncomfortable as of late. So much so that it was beginning to feel as though we would never hear that glorious phrase, “Cold Front.” But alas, after heavy rain here and there for the past two days, we finally have high temps below 90! … It’s the little things in life sometimes.

The cooler weather has me in a fall decorating spirit! I got out some of our fall décor, but have not really committed to it until this weekend! On that note, I want to share this fun project I worked on last week to get in the autumnal spirit.

I am still enraptured with chevron styling and when I saw this ribbon at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago, I was sold! With my inspiration in hand I perused the aisles of the crafting Mecca until I came up with this collection of supplies.

My Supplies: 1 Sprig of berry branches, 1 small white pumpkin, 1 sprig of fall leaves, 1 stalk of wheat, 15 yds of 4″ wide plain burlap ribbon, 7 yds of orange Chevron ribbon, straw wreath, Scissors and a handy-dandy hot glue gun.

Here is a close up of the b-e-a-utiful chevron burlap… I am Loving this stuff!

Now for the how-to… I started out wrapping the 4″W regular burlap around the wreath as it came off the roll. However, I didn’t really like seeing all of the straw underneath. So I decided to fold it in half.

I was pleased with this result because I felt it enhanced the texture of the otherwise plain wreath.

Now for the fun part, Embellishment! I separated a few of the leaves and berry sprigs from the rest and bunched them together, forming this small bunch.

Next, I made a larger grouping with the wheat stalk, remaining berries and leaves.

Here is a photo showing both clusters. This should show you their proportions to each other.

I decided to group the two bundles together facing opposite directions. The larger bundle was placed vertically and the smaller bundle was beneath it following the curve of the wreath to form this grouping.

And now for the Chevron Ribbon! I used this video tutorial last year when making my Poinsettia Christmas Wreath and it came in handy again as a refresher. Then, using some straight pins, I spaced out the “tails” of my bow and glued them down.

Last, I glued down my bow and added the finishing touch, a small white pumpkin, to the center.

I am beyond happy with the result!

What do you think of the wreath? Are you doing any fall crafts?

Fall Family Photos

I mentioned yesterday that I would be posting a preview of the photos that we took at the pumpkin patch yesterday… Well, my studious sister-in-law finished the editing overnight and I am now able to show you some of my personal favorites from our session.

Some of you may have seen them on Facebook, but to see all of the photos in our session you can go to Jennifer’s website by clicking here. While you are there, take a look around. She is very talented.

My handsome boys and I

You have probably seen our family photo that was taken at the same pumpkin patch last year (formerly in the column to your right.) You can see how much my little man has grown since then when comparing last year and this year’s photos!

What a difference a year can make!

*Note: That is the same wagon wheel!

This photo session combined with the cool weather I am actually feeling like it is fall here in Texas!

I am incredibly happy with the way the photos turned out. Jennifer did a great job!
